The International Main Event: LGD vs. Orange Upper Bracket Game 1 Summary

Summary of the opening match of The International main event after the jump.

LGD continued its dominating Group Stage play with a game 1 victory over Orange. Orange chose the surprising Kunkka and Shadow Demon combination. This is only the third game Kunkka has appeared in the tournament. Kunkka was sent bottom in an aggressive tri-lane against the LGD tri-lane. Sylar played a strong Anti-Mage in this tri-lane and supplemented his lesser early game creep gold with kills and assists against the Orange tri-lane. Tidehunter ran solo top and and did a great job getting some early levels and items. Tidehunter's Ravage gave Orange fits throughout the early and mid game. By which time, Anti-Mage had farmed himself up and LGD rolled over Orange.

Sylar continued his dominant play with another great carry performance. I love how LGD can choose a strong hard carry yet still put early game pressure on their opponent. In the battle of the tri-lanes, the Radiant Anti-Mage, Shadow Shaman, and Rubick greatly outplayed the Dire. Kunkka, Leshrac, and Shadow Demon. Tidehunter came in with some clutch teleports while Furion was largely ineffective in his ganks. Tide had a higher Participation than Furion.

Look at that great damage, stuns, and slows provided by Tidehunter. Xiao8 was awesome this game. Note the power of the Shadow Shaman support with his great Tower Damage (more than the other team combined). Leshrac skilled Lightning over Edict, hence the pitiful tower damage.

The 14 to 19 minute period is when LGD started to pull away and push their advantage. Orange made a small comeback but Kunkka and Nightstalker's damage output could not compare to Invoker and Anti-Mage.

Please see this post for a explanation of what each of the item stats mean. Invoker was great with his Force Staff. At minute 33, Taobao ganked a farming Furion by Force Staffing to hex and eliminated the Aegis. His team then joined him to kill Furion before he could BKB and teleport out. Tide's Mek was very useful in the early team fights.

Despite being in a tri-lane and having his early CS suppressed, Sylar was able to find time to farm mid-game and get a substantial amount of Creep Gold. Sylar was great in his decision making on when to farm and when to join team fights.

The beauty of a well played hard-carry. Running in third or fourth most of the early game, Sylar did not let that keep him from farming the crap out of his Anti-Mage. Kunkka and Nightstalker struggled to get decent farm.
