Dota 2: The Defense Season 2 Drafts

For those interested in Dota 2 and in particular joinDOTA.com's The Defense: Season 2 tournament, here is some info on the hero drafts. I charted the drafts from the Defense Group Stage. I was able to get complete draft data on 56 of the 60 matches. I believe 2 matches were forfeits (EG vs. Infused and Hydra vs. 4FC). The other two did not have any record of a recorded draft on Dota TV or on the video replay (coL vs. Hydra and POTM Bottom vs. CLG).

Click here for a chart of the % drafted or picked. Lycan, Nature's Prophet, and Dark Seer where the only 3 hero's to be either picked or banned in every match. Enigma, Shadow Demon, and Windrunner were popular picks (picked in over 60% of matches) but relatively infrequently banned (banned in under 20% of matches).

The most picked heroes were Enigma, Windrunner, Leshrac, Shadow Demon, and Invoker. The most banned heroes where Lycan, Dark Seer, Broodmother, Chen, and Nature's Prophet. The following heroes were not selected or banned at all during the group stage: Alchemist, Axe, Bloodseeker, Doom Bringer, Drow Ranger, Huskar, Lion, Luna (added into Captain's Mode in July), Necrolyte, Outworld Destroyer, Phantom Lancer, Pudge, Razor, Silencer, Skeleton King, Slardar, Sniper, Spirit Breaker, Sven, Treant Protector, and Zeus.

I created a statistic called Draft Points to count not only when heroes were picked or banned but when. Being banned in the first round of bans is worth 15 points and worth 10 points in the second round of bans. Being picked first is worth 14 points while being picked last is worth 6 points (with all other picks being worth between 14 and 6). Here is a chart of Draft Points.
